(Golden, CO, March 17, 2025) Third year Applied Chemistry PhD student Michael Dooley has been named a 2025-2026 American-Scandinavian Foundation Fellow. Through the American Scandinavian Foundation’s research fellowship award, Michael will research pollutants at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute in Oslo, Norway for 6 months. In collaboration with Dr. Hans Peter Arp and ZeroPM, an EU-funded consortium, Michael will work towards addressing pollutants from all angles with the goal of achieving zero persistent and mobile substances in our environment. Michael’s research project is titled “Advancing U.S. Pollution Research and Policy: Predicting Transport Properties in Norway.” In his career, Michael aims to continuing researching pollutants in a university or government agency setting.
FELLOWSHIPS FOR AMERICANS IN THE NORDIC COUNTRIES: The American Scandinavian Foundation’s (ASF) award program for study and research abroad has been the Foundation’s most long-standing commitment to educational exchange. During the past 100 years, over 4,000 fellowships and grants have been given to Americans in the Nordic region (Denmark, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sápmi, and Sweden) and Scandinavians in the US engaged in study, research, or creative arts projects. In 2024, 24 American Fellows were granted over $269,705 in total funding.
