About Us

Nationally Competitive Scholarships is a University Honors & Scholars program that assists undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni through all stages of the application process for competitive national and international scholarships and fellowships. We serve as an advocate, thought partner, and support system for the development of students’ academic goals, intellectual breadth, and personal interests.

We help students to determine which scholarships align with their goals, interests, strengths, and skills and to develop competitive applications by providing feedback on the breadth and depth of the required essays and letters of recommendation. Further, for those awards which require institutional endorsement, we coordinate the campus processes needed to endorse students’ applications.

Why Apply for a Nationally Competitive Scholarship?

Applying for a nationally competitive scholarship can be a gateway to new experiences and opportunities. These awards open the door to academic, research, leadership, and travel opportunities. However, national award competitions are about more than “winning” these opportunities. The application process itself enables high-achieving students to develop a sense of how they want to have an impact on the world, what their postgraduate goals are, and how to articulate those goals. These outcomes are facilitated through an intense, rigorous, and individually tailored writing, reflection, and research process. Students come away from the application process with enhanced grant writing skills and the ability to articulate their goals and foster relationships with their mentors.

What Can I Do With a Nationally Competitive Scholarship?
